About The Society
The TCS was founded in July 1971, by means of a circular from the late Christopher Brunel and Jean M. White to a group of enthusiasts who collected tokens and agreed to publish a bulletin for circulation between themselves. Membership reached eighty in the first six months. The first Bulletin was published in the following October.
The main activities of the Society are:~
- Formal correspondence through the Bulletin where members publish the results of research, publish token related articles or seek assistance with identification or other details.
- There is much informal correspondence between members exchanging information, advertising their wants and maintaining friendships.
There is no formal committee to run the Society, but policy decisions, as the need arises, can be made at Token Congress each year where many of the subscribers meet. The Bulletin Editor acts as a contact point during the year, dealing with subscriptions as members join or renew.
