HOME ABOUT TCS THE BULLETIN TOKEN CONGRESS NOTES & QUERIES

About This Website

The principles of the website at the moment are to keep it uncluttered and to cater for those with older PCs e.g. 800x600 pixel monitors, and for those without Broadband i.e. dial-up.  So there will be no flash or large pictures, unless thumbnail pictures are available with the option to expand them if required.

Although the house style of the website has been decided, for the time being, the navigation path through the website is undecided and will evolve as new material is added.  My current thoughts are to keep the front page as a simple introduction to the newcomer, and then to add more topical news, such as the forthcoming congress.  However, what goes there after Congress?  Is there enough 'news' to add to the front page periodically?  This depends very much on feedback and the response from members with contributions.  Please let me know what you think.

There are certain ideas which are becoming fixed.  'Members Interests' will remain as short introductory pages giving an overview of the topics - this was always the intention.  From these there would be links to other sites for more details.  However, the 'other sites' can be other pages on the TCS website.  So I will have a series of articles linked from the introductory pages to either give a deeper explanation, or to home in on a particular geographic area, or even individual tokens where there is a story to be told.

The list of topics on the front and with the descriptions of these topics, is by no means an exhaustive list and will evolve as time goes on.  There may well be duplication, e.g. Bread Tokens and Milk Tokens might be considered as part of Co-op Tokens. But, if somebody has a collection of just one such heading and it is broader than just Co-op tokens, then this would be welcome.  I have made an arbitary distiction between Other Topics and Paranumismatics - for the purposes of breaking the list into sections.  I would welcome comment on this.

After Congress in October the overall layout of the website may be changed as a result of discussions there.  Other ideas include a page of links to dealers, auction houses and societies.  The problem with outside links is keeping them up to date.  If you find a broken link or other errors on the website, please let me know.  One of the features of the Internet is that the exact appearance of a webpage will depend on the size of the screen and the program that you, the viewer, uses.  There are minor differences in presentation between Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera and Apple/Mac. etc. so that what I see looks fine, but that may not be the case for you.  Again, please let me know. - Geoff
